For the first show of 2017 – only a few days into the new year – we had a free show at Desmond’s Tavern in midtown, a place Mike had played many years ago in one of his bands. Desmond’s had one of the best crowds we’ve seen; the majority of Prestige Worldwide (Rob & Matt’s hockey team) was there, and several members of the New York Magpies Australian Rules Football club were in the house. And a lot of coworkers from several of the band’s jobs. Total attendance was probably around 30 or so. That’s a good crowd for Desmond’s! We also had an older couple celebrating their first anniversary (so they said) that stayed for the entire show. For the second time in a row, a band that was supposed to join us on the bill cancelled, leaving OP79 as the only band on the bill. But it worked out, as well as the show ending just in time to watch the OT of the World Junior Championships gold medal game between the USA and Canada.

Several songs debuted on this night: three originals, and our cover of Psycho Killer. December had been spent working on new material, so the setlist was markedly different from past shows.
